Maharashtra Chief Minister to have a meeting with MFUCTO

The Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (MFUCTO) will continue their strike even as Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has directed them to have a meeting with the minister for higher education, on Friday.

“We discussed our demands on the Sixth Pay Commission and NET/SET conditions with the Chief Minister, Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, State Minister for Higher Education Rajesh Tope and State Finance Minister Dilip Walse-Patil on Thursday. We have been asked to continue the talks on Friday with Tope,” said CR Sadashivan, president, MFUCTO. Starting the ‘cease-work’ agitation on July 14, the MFUCTO had decided to intensify their agitation on July 20 after their talks failed for the third time then.

Later, the teachers took out morchas at various places including at the Nashik General Hospital where a special cabinet meeting was being held in July. Around 50,000 college teachers across the state are on strike called by the MFUCTO. It is being supported by non-teaching staff. The teachers have a list of 32 demands, the prime demand being implementation of the SPC recommendations.
