Gujarat State government employees to fulfil their demands from 15 days

The state government employees have given 15 days’ time to the authorities to fulfil their demands seeking implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations or be ready for intensified protest in the coming days.

Gujarat State Employees Coordination Committee (GSECC) spokesman R A Patel said the coordination committee of the government employees will meet in Gandhinagar in a week to chalk out the future course of action.

Patel said the details of the future protest programmes cannot not be disclosed at present, but they will be intensified to get the demands met.

According to Patel, more than 80,000 government employees took part in Sunday’s rally while nearly 1.5 lakh were stopped on their way to the venue in the city.

He said the reports of political leaders’ blessing to the rally were baseless.

Shankersinh Vagehla, Suresh Mehta, Madhusudan Mistry and Pankaj Shah were among the several Congress leaders detained in the morning - prior to the rally - for violating prohibitory orders.

On the other hand, the leaders of the coordination committee of the agitating government employees have distanced themselves from politicians who have their declared support to the rally.

“We have not invited any political person to attend our rally and if they were found trying to take part in our programme, the police should perform its duty,” said committee chairman Vishnubhai Patel.

Prabuddh Nagarik Shakti Manch spearheaded by former Union Minister Shankersinh Vaghela and former Chief Minister Suresh Mehta said it was surprising to see the government scared just because “we support the cause of the government employees”.
