Jammu and Kashmir employees towards the demand of sixth pay commission

With the government showing no signs of flexibility towards the demand of sixth pay commission, around four lakh employees in Jammu and Kashmir are all set to intensify the struggle for accomplishing their demands.

The employees’ Joint Consultative Committee, spearheading the agitation, convened a high level meeting of its leaders on Wednesday to discuss the further course of the agitation.

Though it remained inconclusive, the leaders have consensually decided to give government a tough time in the coming days.

The member JCC and President Employees Joint Action Committee (K), Khursheed Alam told Greater Kashmir that they have been left with no option but to intensify the strike.

“Even after government promised that it would address our demand in October 2009 but it has not paid any heed towards us till date. We are going to intensify the struggle to meet our demands now,” Alam said.

“We went for strike on December 23 and 30, 2009 just to draw the attention of government. But government remained silent without showing any courtesy towards the suffering employees. Now we have decided to go to the extreme,” he said.

Khursheed said they have got suggestions for an intensified agitation from all leaders but the final decision about its modus operandi would be finalized tomorrow.

“We discussed all options we have up our sleeves. But we will meet again tomorrow,” he said.

The spokesperson of JCC Farooq Ahmad Trali said, “January will be hectic for government as well as for employees. Probably we will go for indefinite strike.” He said the employees of the Kashmir would be called to Jammu for secretariat gherao as a step towards intensifying the struggle.

“The secretariat employees union did not attend the meeting today, so they were meeting tomorrow again,” he said, adding that, “We will give a press conference tomorrow.”

Around four lakh employees are up in arms against the state for “disregard” to their demands. They are seeking implementation of the agreement reached out between them on August 18. The government, in the agreement, had agreed to accept the demands of the employees and also release their arrears under sixth pay commission by October end.
